Not less than 2000 youths under the sponsorship of the Imo Grassroots for Goodluck Jonathan Organisation (IGGO) on Friday 19 December took to the streets of Owerri setting ablaze brooms and All Progressives Congress (APC) flags in the state, They also burnt the party’s membership cards and symbols in front of the Government House Owerri, declaring it dead in the state.
Otuibe Samuel, the national coordinator of IGGO, said the rally was part of the sensitization initiative in support of President Goodluck Jonathan’s re-election bid. According to him, President Jonathan had done a lot for Imo State and the South East in general especially in the areas of education, youth empowerment, agriculture and infrastructure.
He complained that most of the projects done by the Federal Government in all the tertiary institutions in the state were being laid claim to by the APC led government in the state.
Responding, to the situation General Sunday Chikwe (rtd) the state Deputy Chairman of the PDP, he commended the youths for embarking on peaceful rally in support of President Jonathan and the PDP.
The youths moved from Egbu Road through Wetheral Road and other locations in Owerri, chanting songs.
