The Sokoto State Pilgrims Welfare Agency has said that the Chief Imam of the Sultan Abubakar III Jumaa’at Mosque, Sokoto, Liman Dan-Ata, is among those killed in the stampede in Mina, Saudi Arabia. The Media Assistant to the agency, Farouk Umar, made this known in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria on Sunday.
The state government had in a statement issued on Saturday by Imam Imam, spokesman to Governor Aminu Tambuwal, confirmed the killing of nine other pilgrims from the state in the Mina stampede. The agency has also confirmed the killing of the immediate Caretaker Chairman of Illela Local Government Area of the state, Bello Gidan-Hamma, his mother, step-mother and two wives in the stampede...
At the time of writing this report, several other pilgrims from the state had been declared missing. Taraba has also confirmed the death of at least three of its pilgrims in the stampede including the head of the state’s delegation, Abbas Ibrahim.
The total casualty of Nigerians from the stampede which caused the death of over 750 people is yet to be ascertained.
