In response to the rapid increase of deaths in the University of Port Harcourt, Richard
Dappa popularly known as Freetivation wrote a letter to the school. FREETIVATION is a
400 level Chemical Engineering student of the University who has a passion for writing and
uses this medium to vent his anger over the plaque of death in his school and the silence of
the school authority and the S.U.G towards these activities.
In the piece he blames the school to have an indirect hand in the mysterious death of
her students as he asks her to refrain from death’s embrace. “I am not really accusing anyone
but the school authority or S,U,G should at least say something about the seven students who
lost their lives via different shades of accidents in less than a week because other students are
now too scared to do anything, this is when we need our leaders to give us hope” he said
following up the poem.
Read below and tell us what you think is the cause of all the sad death stories or how
it can be averted.
UNIPORT! REFRAIN FROM DEATH’S EMBRACE
Uniport! Refrain from death’s cold embrace,
My heart feels empty from all the tears it has pumped out and
My keypad has lost the keys R_I_P
Gone due to my excessive use of them in that order.
Uniport! Refrain from death’s cold embrace,
I’m tired of telling the driver to pay extra attention to the road
Because I school in an institution currently breast feeding baby death
And I wouldn’t want his life to be lost just for death to sip my blood.
Uniport! Refrain from death’s cold embrace,
It has overstayed its welcome, send it back home
Before it consumes the last one of your students
And there is no longer a soul to mourn.
Uniport! Refrain from death’s cold embrace
This is not a command rather it is a plea
For what is a school without her students?
And how unique would you be without us?
